Our chef

Let's meet Tobias

His journey began as a sous chef in Tommie’s Soul Food. That humble beginning led him to Chef Jerome’s Kitchen (Chef Jerome was the Head Chef and Master Instructor of the Culinary Institute program of Triton College) where he learned everything from immaculate dishwashing to running the kitchen as a Sous Chef.

Tobias then journeyed to Jamaica to learn his family roots and study the street food scene there. In Kingston, he studied under several chefs and traded his labour in their kitchen for additional knowledge of Jamaican culture and food.

First time at Tommies today. Ordered jerk chicken burrito and strawberry lemonade. Jerk sauce was fantastic! Spicy but not overly spicy and lots of flavor. Could taste the charcoal in the chicken. Chicken was juicy and tender and the burrito was packed full of chicken and huge. The strawberry lemonade was full of strawberries and was a good level of sweetness. The owner was friendly and passionate about what he is doing. I'll definitely be back!

the company I work at had this chef catered. My mind taste buds were blown away. That first bite was so satisfying, spicy, smokey, sweet with the salsa. Oh man, then to refresh it with a pineapple lemonade!! I'm impressed and for those who want a legit delicious jerk chicken burrito, you have to try it. First time I have given anyone 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Hands down some of the best peas and rice I’ve ever had, and the pineapple drink is OUTSTANDING. We ordered a huge spread for all employees at work and everyone is still talking about how delicious everything was. The owner came in and set everything up. I don't think I have ever met someone with more pride in their business. He took me through all the food options, friendly, endless positivity. I was very impressed even before I ate the food. I had the combo burrito and a pineapple lemonade. 10 out of 10 food, perfect spice level, the meat was charred slightly, and tonnes of flavour. I will return as soon as I can and you should too.

I've been to Tommie's 5 times now and it keeps getting better. The burritos are stuffed fatter than a Thanksgiving turkey. I've tried the chicken and beef burrito now, and both will have you licking your fingers. The drinks match perfectly with the food, but what really does it for me is the man behind the grill. Tommy really has a heart of gold and he'll make you feel like family everytime you stop by.
